San Francisco Opera

Designed by Stanlee Gatti for the San Francisco Opera, custom printed wall treatments featuring flowing Italian opera lyrics in gold lettering transformed the venue's event spaces into an immersive cultural environment.

Opera 2

San Francisco Opera's premier event spaces received a dramatic transformation through a collaboration with Stanlee Gatti Designs — the San Francisco event design studio responsible for many of the city's most memorable galas. OrangePiel produced the large-format custom wall treatments that anchored the concept: flowing Italian opera lyrics in luxurious gold lettering against rich dark backgrounds, turning the War Memorial Opera House's event corridors into an immersive cultural environment.

The installation spans multiple dining and reception areas, with typography that flows seamlessly across walls to create visual continuity throughout the space. Dye-sublimation printing preserved the sharp edges and gold luster of the typography at event scale, while the fabric substrate let us tension the panels tight across irregular architectural surfaces without visible seams. Complemented by Gatti's warm lighting and draped garland accents, the printed elements establish an upscale ambiance befitting one of America's most prestigious opera companies.

This branded environment enhances the patron experience by reinforcing SF Opera's artistic identity while providing an elegant backdrop for galas, donor events, and special occasions.

Large-scale commercial installations hinge on three constraints this project navigates: print fidelity at architectural scale, fire-code compliance, and schedule. OrangePiel's dye-sublimation process delivers up to 1440 DPI on panels as large as 4 × 8 feet and wall-scale murals reaching 16 × 170 feet — wide enough for most commercial elevations as a single seamless run. NFPA 701 and ASTM E84 Class A fire ratings (flame spread under 25, smoke developed under 450) meet standard commercial building codes without sprinkler-zone retrofit. Production runs 2-4 weeks from approved proof to ground shipping. For installations that combine roller shades, printed panels, and murals — as is typical in mixed hospitality, retail, and cultural environments — OrangePiel specifies the full stack from a single Richmond, Virginia facility, which keeps color match consistent across substrates that otherwise would come from separate vendors. Every product is custom manufactured to order, with rush options available for time-critical openings.

How we made it happen.

The Challenge

San Francisco Opera needed to create sophisticated event spaces that would reflect their prestigious cultural brand and provide an elegant atmosphere for patron galas and special occasions. The spaces required visual impact that would honor the opera tradition while creating memorable experiences for donors and guests.

The Solution

In collaboration with Stanlee Gatti Designs, OrangePiel produced custom printed wall treatments featuring flowing Italian opera lyrics in elegant gold typography against rich dark backgrounds. The design spans multiple event areas with seamless text continuity, establishing an immersive cultural environment that celebrates the opera heritage and the Gatti team's signature gala aesthetic.

The Result

The installation transformed functional event spaces into sophisticated branded environments that enhance the patron experience and reinforce SF Opera's artistic identity. The elegant typography creates the perfect backdrop for galas and special events, elevating the venue's prestige and supporting the organization's fundraising efforts.
