Measuring Your Window Shades

OrangePiel custom printed window shades are easy to both measure and install in your home, office, or commercial project. Don't worry, anyone can do it.

Tools You'll Need

Measuring Tape

Use a metal measuring tape for accuracy. Cloth tapes can stretch and give inaccurate measurements.

Pencil

For marking measurements on paper and noting window positions.

Paper

To record all measurements. Label each window clearly.

Things to Remember

Measure Each Window

Measure the exact window intended for the treatment. Even identical-looking windows may vary.

Measure to 1/8"

Measure to the nearest 1/8 inch for precision. Accuracy pays off in a perfect fit.

No Deductions Needed

Do not take any deductions for clearance. OrangePiel will determine necessary deductions.

Double Check

Double check your measurements—precision pays! Measure twice, order once.

Inside Mount

What is an inside mount shade? The shade is mounted inside the window frame, creating a clean, seamless, built-in design with minimal impact to woodwork and other details. Perfect for utilizing your window to backlight your custom designed image.

Inside Mount Measurement Instructions

1

Measure Width

Measure the inside width at the top of the window. This is your ordering width. You will enter this dimension when working with an OrangePiel Design Specialist.

2

Measure Height at 3 Locations

Measure the height at 3 locations—left, middle, and right-side. Record the LARGEST of the 3 measurements. This is your ordering height.

Outside Mount

What is an outside mount shade? The shade is mounted outside and above the window box. A perfect alternative if there is not enough depth for inside mount. Mounted to wall, ceiling, or moulding surrounding window. Often used to make a window appear larger or hide a less attractive window or door.

Outside Mount Measurement Instructions

1

Measure Width

Measure the width of the area you wish to cover. If space allows, we recommend adding about 1.5" to each side to eliminate light seepage. This is your ordering width.

2

Measure Height

Measure the height of the area you wish to cover. This is your ordering length.

Important Note for Outside Mount

Bracket Allowance: 1.25"

Your shade will be made 1.25" narrower than the measurement you provide to allow for brackets. If you need your shade to cover a specific width (i.e., mounting on a door), add 1.25" to width when ordering.
