How We Transformed a Fortune 500 Headquarters with Custom Printed Shades

Daniel McCool

Founder & Creative Director, OrangePiel

When Art Meets Architecture

When a Fortune 500 tech company approached us about their Bay Area campus, the brief was clear: create window treatments that embody the same attention to detail and creative excellence that defines their brand. This wasn't a typical commercial installation—it was an opportunity to transform functional building elements into works of art.

The Challenge

The campus features expansive glass facades designed to flood creative spaces with natural light. But California's intense sun creates glare on monitors and raises interior temperatures. The challenge was managing light without sacrificing the open, collaborative atmosphere that makes the workspace exceptional.

Our Approach

We worked directly with the facilities team and their internal design group over several months. The process began with on-site consultations, light studies at different times of day, and detailed measurements of over 200 window openings of varying dimensions.

Each shade was custom-printed with artwork that references the company's creative heritage—subtle textures and color palettes that read as sophisticated solid tones from a distance while revealing intricate detail up close.

Technical Specifications

The shades use our proprietary UV-resistant fabric rated for 10+ years of direct sun exposure. We engineered a motorized system integrated with the building's smart controls, allowing automatic adjustment based on sun position and interior temperature readings.

The Result

Over 200 custom roller shades installed across multiple buildings, each one a unique piece that contributes to the campus's creative energy. Interior temperatures dropped an average of 8°F in south-facing spaces, and employee satisfaction surveys showed a 94% approval rating for the new installations.

This project exemplifies what we do at OrangePiel: take something functional and make it extraordinary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do Fortune 500 companies use custom printed window shades in their headquarters?

Large corporations use custom printed shades to reinforce brand identity throughout their facilities—from lobby feature windows displaying brand imagery to conference rooms with subtle branded patterns, cafeterias with artistic designs, and executive floors with sophisticated custom graphics. The shades serve dual functions: professional window treatment performance (glare control, privacy, energy management) and cohesive brand expression.

What scale of commercial shade projects can OrangePiel handle?

We've completed projects ranging from a single executive office shade to hundreds of units across multi-floor corporate headquarters. Our production capacity supports large-scale commercial orders with consistent quality and coordinated delivery schedules. We assign a dedicated project manager for commercial projects exceeding 50 units.

How are large corporate shade installations managed?

Corporate installations follow a phased approach: site survey and measurement (with access coordination), production in floor-by-floor batches, and installation scheduled during off-hours to minimize business disruption. We provide detailed project timelines, coordinate with facility management, and handle all waste removal and site cleanup.

Can corporate branded shades be updated when the company rebrands?

Yes. Our shade systems use replaceable fabric rolls in permanent hardware. When a rebrand occurs, we manufacture new fabric rolls with updated branding that install into existing brackets, cassettes, and motors—avoiding the cost and disruption of complete hardware replacement. This is a significant advantage for corporations that refresh brand assets periodically.
