Environmental Commitment
In a world where every product on the market has magically become "green" once there was demand, OrangePiel would like to be honest with its customers.
Here's the deal. Our material is a PVC-free textile. The base of the material is polyester, which is obviously a petroleum product (polyester makes up only 1-2% of the world's use of petroleum). The untrained eye would obviously deem this as not environmentally conscious, and there is a little bit of truth to this, but let's back up and take a look at the broader "environmental footprint" picture. The material is manufactured in Europe. The people who work the machine have competitive salaries, benefits, and very good working conditions. The byproducts of the manufacturing process are little more than steam. The logistics of getting the material to the US are environmentally favorable due to the reduced weight per volume of using a textile as compared with many other traditionally used construction products. We use a UV-cured printing process that yields no VOCs. The inks are on the cutting edge of environmental standards. Since we dictate the size of the installation beforehand, there is minimal waste on site, and we are beginning a recycling program for any material that remains unused (bags, totes, etc..). The product does not yield dust and VOC, like painting, and there is no super-heating of a room (unlike most membrane systems).
Also, we operate with sound ecological principles on our day to day basis. However small it may be, we buy carbon offsets for the company and host our website with an agency that gets power from wind turbines. We are currently enrolling in the "1% for the planet" so that we give a portion of our revenue to agencies whose express function is to improve enviro-conscious business practices.
So, is the material made from hemp farmed on a commune with no water, no bleaching, and recycled rakes?...no.... but, we are looking at how our business fits into the broader picture of sustainability. Unfortunately, many people are simply trying to make a buck from slapping "green" on their products. That is not our goal. As a young business with conscious employees who will have to deal with the outcomes caused by many generations of incompetence and ignorance, we strive to account for our entire "footprint". There are no perfect solutions to the environmental concerns right now, but be confident that we are considering how are business fits into the larger scope.
Our material is unique and ideal because of the scale and rolling ability. We can deliver large seamless systems that can be installed easily and efficiently.
Our job is to make your inspirations and ideas come to life.
Make it BIG (and efficient) with OrangePiel.
